Birth Day

Here is a quick run down of how Gianni's Birth-day went.

Well, first let me give you a little background info. So right now we're in Boise while Dom is doing an internship (btw I love the place, and our apt is like 5 minutes away from everything, including the temple) and for his internship, he had to go to Chicago for four days to do training. So, while he was gone his mom came to Boise to stay with me so that if anything happened (which i was sure was NOT going to), I would have someone there to help me.

So, we had tons of fun shopping, getting gianni's room ready, going to movies, etc. Tuesday night, we come home from being out and I notice one, yes just one of my feet was pretty swollen, which was strange for me b/c I hadn't had any swelling my whole pregnancy. I didn't really think anything of it, but decided to sleep on the couch so that I could prop my foot up on the arm to get rid of the swelling.

I sleep fairly well, getting up a couple of times to go to the bathroom (the curse of having a compressed bladder thanks to the belly). 5 am rolls around and I get up once again to go to the bathroom. So, I lay back down and 5 minutes later I feel like I'm peeing my pants a little. I thought, "what the heck?! I just went to the bathroom, do I really have NO control anymore?"
So, I get up, go again and then lay back down. I was 1/2 asleep so I didn"t realize what was going on until 5 minutes later, again I feel like Im peeing a little. So, I get up again, go to the bathroom, but realize that i'm not actually peeing, the water was coming from somewhere else! Crap! My water was breaking, but it wasn't like a huge gush, just a little tinkle every few minutes. So, I wake myself up (by this time it's like 5:30/6 am) and texted Dom. I asked him if I went into labor, how fast he could be home. That freaked him out, and I get a call 2 seconds later with a very frantic hubby on the other line. I told him what happened and then we started working on getting him home.

In the mean time, I wake Leila (dom's mom) up and say "hey leila, sorry to wake you up, but I think my water is breaking...") She then sat straight up and said, "What?! Oh no Britnae." Sorry to have woken you up like that!

So, since I wasn't having ANY kind of contractions, I just showered, got ready for the day- I even shaved my legs (knowing that I would most likely be haing a baby that day and didn't want to be all hairy, who knows how long it had been since I shaved last, right?). It was still early and the doc's office hadn't opened yet so I got my my hospital bag ready, and then layed down on the couch-still leaking water. Ironically, I had a doctors appt already scheduled for that day, but I waited until the office opened, called and told them my situation and they told me to come in early. They checked the fluid and confirmed that it was amnionic fluid, that I was 90% effaced, and dialated to a 2. The doctor told me to go to the hospital, which happened to be right accross the street from the doctor's office. I was in labor!

By this time, Domenic had already gotten a last minute flight home for that day, but wasn't going to be back in boise until about 8:00 p.m. It wasn't even noon yet and I was gettin checked into the hospital. I was going to have a baby that day!would He wsa really nervous he would miss the babe being born, but I knew the little guy would wait- my labor had been so slow already, I couldn't imagine it all of a sudden speeding up to a point where dom would miss it.

So pretty much, we (leila and I) went to the hospital, got checked in, I got my iv and was hooked up to the monitor, and still- no contractions...until about 2 or 3pm, I think. It may have been almost 4. Those were not fun and they got pretty uncomfortable pretty quick. I think I was dialated to a 5, and then asked for an epidural. So needless to say, I was pretty comfortable for the majority of my labor. The thing with my epidural is that I couldn't feel anything- except I would still feel some of the contractions! I was ticked, b/c most everyone that I talked to felt absolutely nothing with an epidural but I still felt the contractions, so I asked for more drugs, and that took the edge off some more, but I would still feel them. By that point Domenic was there (yay he made it! and with a couple of hours to spare) and I had someone's hand to squeeze with the contractions.

They had me start pushing, and within 15 minutes of me pushing the baby was out! A healthy baby boy who scored a 9/9 on the epgar (which the nurse said was practically a perfect score b/c they never give out 10's). He was 7lbs, 1 oz and 20 inches long and born at 10:51 p.m. A perfectly healthy little baby boy, even though he was 2 weeks early :) . I cried like a baby when they put him on my chest after he came out, although he was all nasty and bloody/ covered in that white stuff, I couldn't help but love him so much. He was finally really real.

So, can I just say how grateful I am that Leila was here with me while Domenic was gone? I don't know what I would have done without her. I would have freaked out completely! Although it was pretty stressful trying to get Domenic accross the country in time for his son to be born, it makes for a pretty funny story, and one that we'll be able to tell gianni when he gets older.

Well, there you have it- that's the story of Gianni Marc Sanelli's birth-day. Sorry it was so long, but I figure I might as well write it out just in case anyone really wants to know how it all went down.

Here are some pictures of Gianni when he was brand spankin' new.

Right after Dom got to the hospital!

Feeling good after the epidural :)

I know, they look so nasty when they first came out, and yes that is a face
only a mother could love :)

I love you little Gianni Boy!

After they put that goopy stuff on his eyes, I still think he looks adorable, again a face only a mother could love.

Proud daddy with his little son.

Cute boy.

Grandma Leila and the first Sanelli Grandson. I love this picture, so precious!

Our celebration dinner at the hospital, I had grilled salmon, Dom had a burger (typical), we both got smothies, taco salads and cheescakes plus sparkling cider. It was a feast!

Yay! Story and pictures. I know how exhausting being a new mom is and I'm so glad you were able to do a post. That is a great story you'll be able to tell Gianni someday. We're going to miss you this weekend but are planning on coming up in March, so we'll be able to see you and your handsome boy then!
